Simple driving mistakes that can cause accidents

| Jan 18, 2019 | Personal Injury |

Not all car accidents happen because of major mistakes, like running a red light or driving while intoxicated. At highway speeds, the margin for error is just very small. Even a seemingly small mistake can put people in the hospital.

Knowing what to watch out for does not guarantee that you won’t get injured by another driver who makes an error, but it can help. With that in mind, here are a few examples of these crucial errors:

Trying too hard to stay away from concrete dividers

Some drivers act like they’re scared of these dividers, and they stray so far to the right that they drift into the other lanes. Ironically, trying to avoid the wall just makes an accident more likely.

Passing too aggressively in a traffic jam

Drivers act like getting one car-length ahead makes a big difference, and they cut back and forth between lanes, trying to find a way through. This type of aggressive driving puts everyone around them at risk, and they’re only really saving a few seconds.

Not knowing when to go at a four-way stop

Intersections are dangerous, and it’s important for all drivers to know what to do. Some drivers wait too long when it’s their turn. This prompts other drivers to start going ahead of them, only for the waiting drivers to suddenly realize it is their turn and start driving at the same time. Confusion leads to accidents.

At the end of the day, the key is to remember that accidents can happen at any time, even if you follow all of the rules. If you get hurt when someone else makes a mistake, you may need to seek financial compensation.
