During warm days in Miami, it’s normal to see pedestrians on and around the roads. If you love to exercise, you might find yourself rollerskating or rollerblading down the boardwalk.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that drivers are supposed to be cautious around pedestrians, they can and do still make mistakes that put people’s lives at risk. Take, for example, this case that resulted in the death of a rollerblader and the serious injury of a car’s passenger.
According to the story, the skater was traveling on a walking path when a driver lost control of his vehicle. That caused him to hit a tree, which split his vehicle in half. He and his passenger were ejected. They were both rushed to Broward Health North, where they were listed in critical condition.
The rollerblading pedestrian was not as lucky. She had been using the right path to stay off the road, but the car continued on after striking the tree and hit her directly. This led to her death.
Stories like this are a shock because it’s hard to imagine something like this happening. Pedestrians who aren’t even on the roads can be at risk, though, if drivers lose control or exit the roadway unexpectedly.
If you’re a pedestrian who has been hit or you have a loved one who is recovering from injuries from a crash caused by another party, it’s time to look into your options. You or your loved one may be able to seek compensation to cover your financial losses and to help you afford the medical care that you need as you focus on your recovery.
