10-month-old airlifted after suffering a dog bite

Children face some of the highest levels of risk when it comes to dog bites. Their size and strength make it harder for them to protect themselves, and they stand right at the height of the dog’s head. This often means they are more likely to suffer injuries to areas like the neck, face and chest, whereas an adult may get bitten on the leg.

This danger recently played out in Deerfield Beach, Florida, when a 10-month-old boy suffered a serious injury in a biting incident. It was so severe that he had to be taken over to Broward Health Medical Center via airlift.

Officials did describe the young boy’s condition as stable, but they also said they wanted to be very cautious because of the fragile nature of the situation. They took him to Broward Health because it was the Level 1 pediatric trauma center that was closest to their location, even though it took a helicopter to get him there.

Reports indicate that the boy did suffer the injury to his head. The call came in right around 6:00 p.m. Police did go to the house to see if they could find the dog, but they reported that no one was at the house at the time. It was also reported that the dog in question was a golden retriever, which is not a breed that is known for aggression.

Bites like this can, in some cases, be life-threatening. Even when they’re not, they can lead to scars and serious emotional trauma. It is important for parents to know all of the options they may have to seek compensation.
